Speedy's recovery story
In October 2019, our Speedy fell ill with FIP. Speedy is a Norwegian Forest Cat and was only 4 months old at the time. We began treatment immediately. However, we were still very inexperienced with this disease and had to rely on what we were being told about the treatment.
At first, it seemed that Speedy was making small improvements. But by the fourth week, her condition had worsened. We were told to take her to a veterinary clinic for an MRI, and that a sample of cerebrospinal fluid would also be needed. Both procedures were carried out at the clinic. We realized the very next day that this had been a serious mistake. When we brought Speedy home from the clinic, she was completely paralyzed.
As soon as we got home, we called our vet. She came to us immediately and was shocked. She said that the kindest thing would be to put Speedy to sleep. But for us, that was never an option. That same day, we started searching for advice and help. Luckily, we quickly found knowledgeable people who offered us their support. Even they believed that Speedy had very little chance of survival.
But we never gave up. We had to force-feed her for 3 weeks, and the whole situation was a huge challenge for all of us.
For a long time, everything seemed hopeless, but after about 2 weeks, we finally began to see the first small signs of progress. It felt like a miracle when, after 24 days, Speedy was able to stand a little again. From then on, she kept improving. It was a long and difficult journey. For us, it felt like a day of celebration when Speedy started to play again for the first time after 6 weeks.
In February 2020, the treatment was finally completed. The fact that Speedy is still with us today is also thanks to the people who supported us with such good advice throughout the entire course of her treatment.
