[How We Discovered FIP]

The Little was originally living at a raw meat stall in a certain Cheung Chau wet market. She was very timid and would only come out when it was feeding time; after she ate, she would go back up to the ceiling. Sai Lam is one of the neighborhood cats we know. We took her to be spayed when she was a kitten, and whenever we go to the wet market, we always stop by to see her. When we checked on her in January 2025, we suddenly noticed her belly was extremely bloated. Passersby thought she was pregnant, but we were certain that wasn't the case. With the owner's permission, we took her to the vet. After reviewing her blood work, checking for ascites, and observing yellowing of her ears, she was diagnosed with wet form feline infectious peritonitis (FIP).

[Treatment Process]

Since one of our cats had FIP last year, we weren't as panicked this time. We immediately showed Uncle Kit the blood work results and described the symptoms, and he scheduled the injection for that very day. The owner didn't have time for the treatment, so she gave β€œThe Little” to us. Uncle Jay was so kind; knowing that Little One was a stray, he wanted to encourage us to adopt her (at the time, I already had two cats). The entire treatment, including the shots and medication, was completely free. Besides giving her Bliss, Uncle Kit also gave Little One an extra B12 shot and some liver supplement for her to take home. We also followed the vet's prescription and gave Little One deworming pills and iron supplement.

[Bliss puts parents at ease]

After our last experience, I wasn't too worried about how little one would react to the shots from Uncle Kit πŸ˜…. Visiting Uncle Kit for the injections makes you feel very at ease and comfortable. Little one is pretty calm on her own, and she didn't need a cone or any Gabapentin for the shots. The injection process takes just a few seconds and feels calm and peaceful. While waiting for the shot, parents chat and share experiences, and Uncle Jack shares his insights, making the whole thing feel very transparent. After just four days of injections, The Little's yellow urine has improved significantly, and she's even motivated to play.

[Attempting to Switch to Oral Medication]

Based on our previous experience, our cat β€œLiangfen” was stable after 14 days of bliss injections and was successfully switched to oral medication to complete her treatment. This time, after a month of injections, The Little's ascites had noticeably subsided, so Uncle Jack recommended trying the oral medication, also reminding us that every cat reacts differently to it. So we updated Uncle Kit every day on her condition, keeping an eye on her appetite, bowel movements, activity level, and weight. On the third day of the oral medication, we noticed her appetite had dropped and her stools had gotten soft. Uncle Kit recommended switching back to injections, and her appetite returned, her stools normalized, and she's getting more chubby by the day 😬

[Afterword]

After 84 days of being with The Little day and night, and since our three cats are all male, we figured an adult female who'd had FIP would be hard to adopt out. In the end, we couldn't bear to send her to a cattery, so we decided to adopt her ourselves. It's been a year since we adopted her, and The Little has gotten bigger and bigger 🀣 and more and more of a diva πŸ˜‘

Finally, thanks to Uncle Kit and the other parents on the journey.
